King Henry V, Great Dane, died peacefully on April 5th while watching television on his favorite ottoman. Though he lived for only 5 years, he brought love and loyalty to his owner, Joe Godwin, during their time together. Born to a breeder in Berwick, PA and adopted by Joe in 2005, Henry quickly became the neighborhood darling. Pure black, except for tufts of white on his chest and paws, Henry loved to show off his agility by dodging through the snow-covered trees on the property at full speed. Twice during the summers of his life he had the misfortune of encountering porcupines, and braved surgeries each time to remove the quills. And though he weighed over 100 pounds, he was a gentle dog that loved to share the couch with his owner; his head nestled on Joe’s lap. Henry’s life was short, but his loyalty to Joe – who predeceased him by only two months – was undying.
